Feeling Great

Sorry it’s been awhile since we’ve updated! between work, working out, spending time with friends and significant others it’s hard to find time. But in great news we are both down 20lbs! We have been hard at work in the gym and in the kitchen! We have been attending a boot camp class 3 times a week which has helped up not only lose pounds but inches and feeling stronger than ever. We run laps, and sprints with weighted medicine balls, lunges, kettle bells, squats, crunches, ropes and oh and we  flip tires!! It’s Crossfit like but without the hype, as we say no machines no problem! Check out Xtreme Change bootcamp at: http://www.xtremechange.com/

Jen has also been taking a boxing class with Ryan at http://www.fight2fitnessri.com/  and is loving it!! I tagged along for a class and it was awesome! My leg is on it’s way back so hopefully I will be back to running miles again.

It just goes to show that you can adjust your workouts to suit your style and work around an injury. Here are some before pics from right before we started at boot camp and out most recent pics.

Let the running season begin!

Saturday we had our first Team EFS practice  It was so great to see everyone again, cold for sure but good to get back into it. I ran/walked 2 miles for the the first time in a long time and it felt great! Not completely pain free but enough that I could work through it. I got to run with some new members so it was good to get to know them. Jen went out and did a little over 4 miles which is more than she expected to do so she was happy that she was able to do it. We both can tell how working out at boot camp and boxing has helped our fitness.

This is us after practice looking awfully twinnie! No wonder Coach Jay had issues telling us apart haha

Here is the team from Saturday no everyone was there

Over all a great start to the season and we are both excited to see where we go with our running this year!

Making a setback into a comeback!

So Kelly and I have been on track to getting back into shape this year as we are both down 10lbs! We have been getting back into fitness by going to bootcamp 2-3 days a week and getting our butts kicked by Dave Magliozzi!! Check out this place! We love it. http://www.xtremechange.com/

So with the running season fast approaching and TEAM EFS starting up in a few weeks we are trying to get back into running shape. Jen was supposed to do her first 5k of the season but it was canceled due to bad weather so she is hoping to get out there and start getting in some miles and a 5k race before the season starts, Kelly is still coming off her stress fracture injury and Thanks to our friend and coach Jay he found a great physical therapy/fitness facility right down the street from us Functional Fitness that offers an Anti Gravity treadmill. http://www.functionalfitnessandpt.com/

This Alter G treadmill  is an anti-gravity treadmill that can help people with joint problems, balance issues or injuries to return to walking or running, sometimes months before they normally could. To learn more check it out here:

http://www.alterg.com/

So Kelly tried it out and we hope it will be the key to getting her back in action! it takes the weight off her leg so when she runs she feels weightless, and can get in her cardio and it doesn’t change her running mechanics.  The machine calibrates your weight and then fills with air and it counters your body weight allowing you to run without the pressure on your joints. She was able to run for 10 minutes! The longest she has been able to go straight running on it! Here are some pictures of her experience and we will keep you updated on how she progresses!

First she had to put on some special shorts!! Looking good! :)

Then the machine calibrates your weight.

And she’s off!! Playing with the settings to get it just right.

Off and running!! Go Kelly Go!

How did it go Kelly??

She will be back in action in no time!! :)

A little before and after action

So starting a new year and trying to stick to our fitness and weight loss goals, sometimes we have to remind ourselves where we started. Sometimes it can be hard to see when you’re in the moment and feel like we still have a long way to go. Here are pictures from the beginning of our journey. It’s surprising to know that these pictures were taken after we started losing weight because  we look so different. But both signify great moments. The first picture is after we completed our first race, it was a 2 mile kids fun run. The first athletic event we had participated in for a long time. That day our good friends raced in  the 10k event and we remember thinking wow, we don’t know if we could ever do that. Thee second picture is us at the first team EFS practice. Our coach and friend Jay made us run our first 3.1 miles! We reminisce at this picture for a few reasons. For one thing, EFS has grown exponentially since this picture, and secondly  we only used to exercise in men’s long shorts because we hated our bodies and didn’t want to show anything and it was all we were comfortable in.  How far we have come is incredible! And sometimes pictures can say a thousand words!

We recently had the opportunity to do some promotional work for Get in Shape for Women (the small group personal training all women gym where we trained and lost the majority of our weight) the difference between these pictures and the earlier ones is really amazing to see. Its a great reminder of how far we have come. And even on the days when we feel like we still have a long way to go in this journey, we are proud of what we have accomplished so far. So maybe one day we will see these pictures on an advertisement! You never know with us! :-)
